The founder of our firm was the Dominican lawyer and politician Manuel de Jesús Troncoso de la Concha. Known for his high profile in the intellectual circles, he founded this law firm on March 2, 1915 under the name Oficina Troncoso. He was a graduate of the class of 1899 of the Professional Institute, name under which temporarily operated the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, due to political reasons. He was very active in pubic service in the three branches of government, as well as in the municipal establishment.
In the judicial, he served as a First Instance Judge, Court of Appeals Judge, as well as Justice of the Supreme Court. In the legislative, he presided the Dominican Senate from 1943-1955.
As for the executive branch, he occupied several governmental positions such as Minister of Justice, Minister of Public Instruction, Minister of Industry and Commerce, Minister of Communications, Minister of Interior and Attorney General.
Later on he became President of the Dominican Republic from 1940 until 1942. Prior to ascending to the Presidency, he was Vice-President from 1938 to 1940.
He was Mayor of the City of Santo Domingo, as well as President of the National Electoral Board. Aside from his legal practice, he devoted time to acting as an Attorney for the International Court and as Dean of the Law School and Principal of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo.
Manuel de Jesus Troncoso was also founding member of the Dominican Academy of History and Chairman of its Board from 1943 until 1954.
As an author, our founder published the works Elementos de Derecho Administrativo (lit. "Elements of Administrative Law"), Narraciones Dominicanas (lit. "Dominican Narratives"), La Ocupación de Santo Domingo por Haití (lit. "The Occupation of Santo Domingo by Haiti"), El Brigadier Juan Sánchez Ramírez (lit. "Brigadier Juan Sánchez Ramírez"), and Génesis de la Convención Dominico-Americana (lit. "Genesis of the Dominican-American Convention"). He was Editor-in-chief of Listín Diario from 1899 to 1911.
He died at age of 77 on May 30, 1955 in the city of Santo Domingo.
After his passing, his work was continued by his children, Jesus Maria, Pedro and Wenceslao Troncoso, as well of his son-in-law, Marino Caceres Ureña. They were the first generation of a legacy of excellence and integrity in the practice of law.
In 1983, they changed the firm’s name to TRONCOSO Y CACERES.
From 1975 until 2011, the firm was lead by his grandchildren, Manuel A. Troncoso, Ramón Caceres Troncoso and Marcos Troncoso, the third generation and at presents his great grandchildren, Jesus Maria Troncoso, Ana Isabel Cáceres and Maria J. Felix Troncoso, the third generation, lead the firm into its first century of existence.
