The protection of intangible assets has become a critical legal area for companies as they continue to expand and protect their technologies, brands, products, data and services.

TRONCOSO Y CÁCERES has the largest and oldest Intellectual Property department in the country, and currently maintains a successful leadership in this area, having developed strong ties with many other intellectual property agencies around the world. Our IP group includes attorneys who are members of IP professional associations, including the International Trademark Association (INTA), the Inter-American Association of Industrial Property (ASIPI), the Fédération Internationale des Conseils en Propriété Intellectuelle (FICPI), and the Dominican Association for the Protection of Industrial Property or ADOPI).

Our services include the preparation and registration of all types of applications for the protection of intellectual property rights, such as trademarks, patents, utility models, industrial designs, appellations of origin, trade names, copyrights, secrets. industrial and other related rights. Likewise, we assist in the monitoring of registration requests and assist in the defense of any opposition filed by third parties, until the corresponding registration is achieved, if legally viable.
We assist our clients, local or foreign, in monitoring these IP rights and the status of their protection in the country, as well as to intervene in cases of renewal, modification or even transfer thereof.
Our practice in this area also includes advice on smuggling, rights violations and counterfeiting matters.
The firm has experience in the successful handling of IP litigation before the Dominican courts. We work closely with the client for the design of strategies in the handling of claims, counterclaims and incidents and in the filing of any type of argument or recourse aimed at an effective protection of these rights.
The Dominican Republic is a member of the Paris Convention, the Patent Cooperation Treaty, the Berne Convention, and other international agreements. Our lawyers have complete knowledge of international agreements that affect IP protection locally and abroad. We provide services to our clients regarding their interpretation and application in the Dominican Republic.
